A Fulfilling Digital Internship Experience

By Maria Kristina P. Jamisola, Digital Marketing Intern

As a graduating student, I’ve come across feelings of doubt and fear of what the future might hold for me. Maybe it’s because I’ve grown accustomed to the day-to-day routine of a student and the thought entering the adult life scared me. Those thoughts and feelings carried through when I was applying for internships.

Then came my interview for the digital intern at TeamAsia. My interviewers from the Digital team welcomed me from the get go and made me feel comfortable in talking about myself – capabilities, experiences, hobbies, expectations. Although I came majorly from a journalism background which includes being an associate editor for the collegiate publication, they assured their support as I navigate the basic fundamentals of digital marketing throughout the internship.

After that initial meeting, I knew that I was in the right place. Speaking with my future Digital teammates gave me confidence they’ll be positive influences in my professional pursuit. Listening to them rave about TeamAsia’s culture that prides themselves on valuing personal growth while encouraging TeamAsians to pursue their passions was a contributing factor in my decision.

As I dipped my toes into the day-to-day tasks, learning about the clients, talking with the team, I was slowly getting the hang of the digital marketer’s life. Slowly my fear and doubt disappeared and were replaced by trust and confidence in my capabilities. While there were the inevitable challenges, my mentor and supervisor always reassured me with affirmations such as  “Hey, you’re doing fine!” and constructive feedback to help bring out my best.

My day-to-day tasks as a digital intern evolved from preparing social media captions to sharing simple yet impactful ideas in agency pitches. There was also this special kind of satisfaction in seeing the fruits of my labor whenever I see my content getting published online and my inputs with the Digital team contributed in the advent of a new client.

In between those wins transpired my desire to learn more about digital marketing, and to be involved in other related tasks such as brainstorming for pitches and setting up digital ads (Facebook and Google Ads in particular). I always looked forward to my weekly check-ins with my Digital supervisor Ms. Candice because there was always a new learning from her rich insights on the discipline. Being a Digital intern was initially about supporting the Digital team members and their projects, so I worked with different members in varying capacities. Despite my limited knowledge in some of the industries under our wing, the whole Digital team was willing to guide me and help me excel in every way.

The only downside of my internship would be the Work from Home setup. I always imagined myself doing an internship in the office ever since I was a freshman. Perhaps it was because I wanted to experience life on site where I can work while making chikka and forming tight bonds with my officemates. But my virtual internship felt close to that ideal onsite experience – all thanks to my teammates across different departments making gracious efforts to get to know me better. From Pop-Up to the little Monday chats with the Digital team, I felt the strong camaraderie all around during my brief time as a TeamAsian.

Overall it was a gratifying experience to be a digital intern at TeamAsia. Looking back, it was more than just the 400-hour requirement for my college credit. Through this internship, I was able to learn and experience what it was like working in digital marketing and the experience made me consider a future career in the field. TeamAsia is the place to start your journey to becoming a digital marketing expert if you are a graduating student or a young professional aiming to breakthrough in your career.

Thank you to the Digital Team for being patient and understanding with me as I continue to learn and navigate the world of digital marketing. I hope we can all meet each other when the world gets better!
