BPAP congratulates Japan’s NTT Group and DTSI Group

(Manila, Philippines) – NTT Communications (NTT Com) and DTSI Group (DTSI) announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which NTT will acquire a controlling 50.1% interest in DTSI.

Benedict Hernandez, President & CEO of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines, extended his congratulations to the firms, and expressed appreciation for their commitment to the Philippine IT-BPO industry.

“DTSI has been at the core of the Philippine IT-BPO industry from its beginning. DTSI president and CEO and BPAP trustee Miguel Garcia helped champion the industry, led and continues to lead investors to the country, co-founded BPAP and continues to sit on its board, and provides the technology, facilities, and application systems required to support world-class business and knowledge processing services delivery.”

NTT Com is a wholly owned subsidiary of global telecom leader NTT Corporation, one of the world’s largest providers of telecommunications services. In 2011, it was ranked 31st in Fortune’s Global 500 list. The company’s roots go back over 100 years to the introduction of the telegraph in Japan. It had operating revenues of US$130 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2011. The Group employs 219,350 people worldwide.

The investment in DTSI, which has enabled over 60% of call center seats in the Philippines, will provide NTT Com a major foothold in the fast-growing IT-BPO industry in the country. Last year, the industry grew 24% to more than $11 billion in revenue and almost 640,000 employees. The Philippines is the number one provider of outsourced, offshored voice services in the world, and is the number two provider of complex, non-voice services.

Over 700 IT-BPO services providers and global in-house centers deliver a broad range of services to clients and internal customers around the world from the Philippines. “DTSI has a wonderful portfolio of industry-leading clients. These clients engage DTSI for its professional delivery of technology, communication, and facility services,” said BPAP senior executive director Gillian Virata. “Like the IT-BPO industry is supports, DTSI is also a fast-growing company.”

Garcia believes NTT Com is the partner DTSI requires to expand the company’s operations internationally. “NTT Com obviously has enormous resources that it will leverage to enable our company to serve other verticals not just here in the Philippines, but around the world,” Garcia said. “While we already provide services to firms in the banking, medical, insurance, and other industries, partnering with NTT Com will enable us to accelerate business development in these attractive verticals and support expansion to Asia and in western markets.”
