IT-BPM leaders to explore next business frontier at the IBPAP-O2P CEO Briefing

The Philippine information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) industry is set to conquer the next business frontier—but should it? Business leaders and industry stakeholders gather to discuss whether it’s time to diversify to more complex services or focus on expanding to meet the current high demand for bread-and-butter voice customer service.

Entitled, “Conquering the Next Business Frontier: Achieving IT-BPM Leadership,” the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) and Outsource2Philippines (O2P) are co-presenting the second CEO briefing of the year. It will be held on July 23 at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Designed for C-Level executives, the briefing will focus on choosing between value creation in new fields of service or increasing in volume of established services as the best path to achieving IT-BPM leadership. Keynote presentations from industry leaders and analysts, and a panel discussion which include key representatives from the academe, media, government, and the business community will set off the debate.

“We are currently at a critical point in the global IT-BPM industry as other global destinations vie for leadership in the demand chain. The competition is rough as we face challenges such as the development of more qualified talent and the growing market for knowledge work,” says Jose Mari Mercado, IBPAP president and CEO. “This gives rise to the question of whether we should focus on our strengths and address strong demand in our traditional CRM market or we should work on our weaknesses and address the growing market in high-value services.”

During the CEO Briefing, attendees will also gain insights on industry revenue and major factors affecting progress as IBPAP senior executive director Gillian Virata will present the results of an industry-wide survey on the current state of IT-BPM firms. Results of a separate study on the Philippine IT-BPM industry’s evolution and development potential will also be presented.

“An industry-wide distinction between ‘high-value’ and ‘basic’ services is vital for our continued success. The forum will help stakeholders gain a better grasp of the market demand, available industry support and capabilities,” says Virata. “We aim to address whether our next move is to expand, diversify, move sideways or move up.”

The Philippines is a leading destination for voice services and non-voice, complex services. With its position in the global outsourcing stage, IT-BPM leaders propose to cover more ground by carefully identifying market demands and discussing the role of high-value services in the future of IT-BPM.
