Building strong company culture through sports
Manila, Philippines — To foster camaraderie and teamwork among its more than a thousand employees, QBE Group Shared Services Center (GSSC), a division of Sydney-based QBE Insurance Group, recently held its second “QBElympics” at the Assumption College Gym.
“QBE believes in our people more than anything else and we owe the company’s exemplary performance to them. They deserve healthy competitions like this that allow them to interact with their fellow QBE employees. Sports also bring out their competitive spirit,” said Karen Batungbacal, Executive General Manager of QBE GSSC.
According to Joyce Peñalosa, Chief Human Resources Officer of QBE GSSC, sports is an effective way to engage employees and promote teamwork among the different departments of the company. “With QBE GSSC’s significant growth for just over a year in the Philippines, and with participants who are mostly under a year old, it is rewarding for us to see them grow as professionals and individuals in this light,” she said.
The QBElympics is a company-wide event which involves sports activities including basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and bowling. This year, team Black Mamba bested the other four teams—Blue Sabertooth, Silver Fox, Green Hornets, and Red Sharks—to claim the bragging rights as the 2014 QBElympics Overall Champion aside from the cash prize.
The sportsfest is part of QBE’s employee engagement program that aims to promote the overall well-being of its employees. “QBE GSSC will continue to provide opportunities for our employees to grow not only as individuals but, more importantly as a team,” Peñalosa concluded.
