Global IT-BPM industry summit announces speakers

5th International Outsourcing Summit to feature leading business thinkers and innovators

The Information Technology and Business Processing Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) announced the roster of key speakers and panelists for the 5th Annual International Outsourcing Summit (IOS). The summit gathers the world’s leading thinkers and innovators, particularly in the information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) industry, to examine critical issues from every corner of the globe.

“The IT-BPM industry is changing the world as we know it,” said Jose Mari Mercado, IBPAP president and CEO. “In this era of high growth, attaining success across a range of markets means engaging relevant stakeholders so that they meaningfully contribute and effectively respond to these rapid changes.”

The 5th annual IOS, under the theme, “Unlocking Possibilities, Creating New Vistas,” takes place October 6–8, 2013, at the Makati Shangri-La. The summit features plenary and breakout sessions that will provide groundbreaking insights on emerging opportunities and challenges. Representatives from flourishing economies and niche players in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa, among others, have been invited to present their success stories and ways forward for their respective sectors.

One of the notable industry developments is the integration of social, mobile, analytics and cloud or SMAC in the enterprise, which will be analyzed in the first President’s Panel entitled, “The SMAC Stack: Revolutionizing the enterprise model” to be moderated by Mercado. Johan Hellstam Segergren, country manager for Google Enterprise in Thailand and Philippines will be the presenter. Rajesh Nambiar, general manager of Services Integration Hub – East, will join the panel.

The strategic human resource panel will discuss how to manage multicultural workforce. The IT-BPM talent pool needs to work with other professionals that do not share the same ethnicity, language, and culture. “A Square Peg in a Round Hole: Managing a Multicultural Workforce” will be presented by Jeffrey Uthoff, president of TELUS International Philippines, who has extensive experience in providing leadership and coordination of all functional groups and the entire team in Manila. The panel includes Joey Gurango, president of the Philippine Software Industry Association and founder and CEO of Gurango Software Corporation, Joanne Weston Edes, an independent coach, facilitator and workplace learning consultant based in Manila, and Jeff Williams, assistant vice president of Global Clinical Services for Operations, Medicall Philippines, Inc. – a Cognizant company.

“The ‘Bots are Coming,” the second President’s Panel will examine the prospect of machines eventually replacing human labor. Is the industry ready for this? And will it help ensure quality of output and enhanced services? These questions will be answered in a panel moderated by Alfredo Ayala, IBPAP Chairman emeritus and the managing director and CEO of LiveIt Solutions, the IT-BPM investment arm of the Ayala Group of companies. Among the panelists is Asheesh Mehra, who leads Infosys’ BPO practice in Asia-Pacific, Japan and the Middle East regions.

The analyst panel, “Building Centers of Excellence: A Tale of IT-BPM Cities”, will shed light on locations that were able to build and sustain a rapidly-growing industry. The panel will be moderated by Gillian Joyce Virata, IBPAP senior executive director. The session’s presenter is Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, former chair of National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) and founding president of the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for ICT (BNEFIT). Joining the panel are AJ Enriquez, head of Sutherland Global Services’ Philippine operations, Vikrant Khanna, principal for Tholons, and Achyuta Ghosh, head of research of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM).

“We look forward to seeing participants from all over the world come together for the sole purpose of propelling the industry to greater heights,” Mercado said. “The fifth annual IOS is a great opportunity for business leaders to converge and exchange ideas which will benefit their respective enterprises as well as the IT-BPM industry as a whole.”
