The heart of excellence in leadership
TeamAsia President Monette Iturralde-Hamlin recognized by IABC CEO Excel Awards
After more than three decades of unparalleled excellence, service, and dedication to her craft, TeamAsia President and Founder Monette Iturralde-Hamlin has been recognized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines as one of the recipients of this year’s Communication Excellence in Organization (CEO Excel) Award.
With this recognition, Iturralde-Hamlin joins an exclusive group of executives and corporate leaders who have proven their management competence and excellence in communication at a strategic level.
“This award belongs mainly to everyone in TeamAsia.” Iturralde-Hamlin said. “Our team has continuously exhibited excellence, and this recognition is an affirmation of the work we do in TeamAsia.”
Aside from serving as the president of the award-winning integrated marketing communications agency TeamAsia, Iturralde-Hamlin concurrently serves as chairman of the Philippine Association of Convention/Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers (PACEOS); chairman of Hopkins International Partners, Inc. (Philippines); and trustee and treasurer of the Women’s Business Council Philippines. She served as PACEOS President from 2011-2015 and as trustee and board secretary of the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF) for four years. She served for three consecutive years on the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board as director representing the Meeting, Incentives Travel, Conventions, Exhibitions & Events Services & Facilities (MICE) Sector.
Iturralde-Hamlin also conducts workshops on event management, strategic planning, business writing, presentation skills, team building, cross-cultural sensitivity, corporate social responsibility, communications, and handling difficult people. She is part of the speaker roster of the LCF Corporate Social Responsibility Institute and the Philippine M.I.C.E. Academy, and a member of various professional organizations. She completed her Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology at the College of the Holy Spirit, graduating Summa Cum Laude; from which in 2014, she was recognized as one of the Ten Outstanding Alumnae of the College of the Holy Spirit. She continued her studies at the Asian Institute of Management as a full scholar, earning herself a Master in Business Management with Distinction.
Aside from her personal accomplishments, Iturralde-Hamlin also spearheaded several pivotal programs that has strengthened industries, changed lives, and redefined excellence in her field of business. Together with her late husband, Michael Alan Hamlin, Iturralde-Hamlin has played an instrumental role for the Philippine information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) industry. As a matter of fact, TeamAsia, through her leadership and in coordination with the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), conceptualized and staged the industry’s largest event, the International IT-BPM Summit for the past eight years. She also played a key role when the Philippines hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). As part of the core group of the Women’s Business Council which co-organized the APEC Public Private Dialogue of Women and the Economy together with the Department of Trade and Industry on September 17, 2015, she proposed a more interactive and responsive event website, the adoption of a mobile app that would incorporate an audience response system, and live social media coverage. All of these ideas were eventually integrated into the event, and it made the dialogue one of the most engaging and interactive events during APEC.
TeamAsia has also been one of the main proponents of My Dream in a Shoebox, an annual Christmas campaign that aims to provide underprivileged children around the country with school supplies that they can use to realize their dreams. This program is jointly run by Iturralde-Hamlin’s TeamAsia and the IT-BPM industry’s umbrella organization, the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP). In just seven years, the program has been able to collect more than 100,000 shoeboxes filled with school supplies that were distributed to impoverished children.
“My Dream in a Shoebox is one of our most important projects. Through this program we are able to make a difference in the lives of thousands of Filipino children, and this year we aim to make a bigger impact by collecting and giving 75,000 shoeboxes,” Hamlin-Iturralde said.
The IABC CEO Excel Awards has been given annually to top-level business executives from both the private and public sectors. Individuals who were given this award are acknowledged as champions of excellent communication to achieve business goals, leaders for good governance, and responsible corporate citizenship.
7th IIS receives AFECA nod
Meanwhile, the 7th International IT-BPM Summit was also recognized recently by the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Association (AFECA). IIS 2015 took home the third place in the Outstanding Convention Congress category of AFECA Awards 2016.
IIS was recognized for its sustainable use of resources which enabled it to be called as a green conference. The event was also very effective in its use of a mobile application that allowed delegates to participate in the event through an integrated audience response system. The topics of the theme also proved very relevant in the face of technological advancements that directly impacted the local and global IT-BPM industry.
The award was given last November 7 in Xiamen, China.
