Making APEC mobile

APEC goes mobile! IMC Agency TeamAsia designs mobile app with ARS integration for international summit

“Bringing experiences to the next level.”

This is a mantra that is often heard within the four walls of TeamAsia’s office in Alabang and has been consistently translated to many things that the integrated marketing communications agency has been involved with in the past 23 years. When the Department of Trade and Industry tapped them to stage some events that were connected with the Asia Pacific Economic (APEC) Cooperation, TeamAsia studied all their options and decided to change the game by bringing the important conversations of the summit to the mobile realm.

“We believe that through the innovative use of mobile application we were able to really bring the discussion to the audience. The discussion is no longer limited to the panelists or whoever is speaking at the podium because now, through technology, we have brought the conversation to the delegates’ palm,” TeamAsia Managing Director Bea Lim said.

The idea for a mobile application for the local APEC events started when TeamAsia President and Founder Monette Hamlin attended the APEC Women and the Economy Fora in Bali in 2013 and in Beijing last year, together with other representatives from the Women’s Business Council. Noting that there was hardly any opportunity for private sector delegates to be engaged in the discussions, she recommended that a mobile app be introduced at the APEC Women and the Economy Fora that was to be hosted by the Philippines in September 2015.  This would allow the audience to voice out their opinions as well as join the conversation during the summit.

The mobile app designed by TeamAsia had within it an audience response system (ARS) that allowed the delegates to weigh in on the topics presented and even answer questions posited by the panel and speakers. It was also used to gauge the opinion of the delegates about certain topics.

TeamAsia’s mobile app was used in four APEC-related events hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry, namely: Public Private Dialogue on Women and the Economy (PPDWE); the Women’s Business and Smart Technology Seminar; the Seminar of Empowering Women through ICT for Inclusive Growth held last September; and more recently the APEC High-Level Dialogue on Inclusive Business.

The ARS system embedded in the mobile app was launched during PPDWE, the first time such technology was used for an APEC event. TeamAsia also did the web and content design for both the APEC Women and the Economy Fora and the High-Level Dialogue on Inclusive Business.

“APEC is undoubtedly the most important event this year, and we are proud to be part of such a historic event,” Lim said. “But aside from this, we are really happy that we enabled a more interactive discussion and that our delegates were able to communicate with each other better.”

TeamAsia is proud of helping APEC achieve its goals of building a better world through inclusiveness.

“We in TeamAsia believe in the importance of building inclusive economies, as we see this as the most viable way to really uplift the lives of not only our countrymen but also millions of people around the world,” Lim concludes.
