Be a people’s champion, know how to deal with difficult personalities

Manila, Philippines — Working can get even more stressful when the people around you constantly push your buttons and test your patience. However, as a professional, one has to learn how to deal with difficult personalities and turn conflict into cooperation.

According to Monette Iturralde-Hamlin, a seasoned public speaker and trainer, and president and founder of strategic communications firm TeamAsia, a harmonious work environment can be achieved through breakthrough communication. “Communication is always the key. You don’t necessarily have to like everybody but you must know how to communicate well even to the most unwanted person in the group.”

Breakthrough communication is characterized by knowing yourself, the people you are working with and their intentions. You must be equipped with the necessary communication skills and these skills can be acquired through your willingness to understand.

To understand why some people behave the way that they do, Iturralde-Hamlin equips participants with a way of looking at difficult situations and evaluating how to handle them.  “Understanding and listening are keys to dealing with difficult people. It is a must to know where they are coming from because at some point in your career, you may have been one of them too,” shared Iturralde-Hamlin.

On June 11, 2014, Iturralde-Hamlin will conduct the Handling Difficult People Workshop, a workshop designed to to de-stress all of your difficult relationships, on or even off the job! It will provide insights on how you can change your behavior and reaction toward those who make life difficult for you.
