StarTek recognized for second time in ICT Awards
(Manila, Philippines, April 7, 2010) – High-value BPO services provider StarTek was named a finalist in the BPO Employer of the Year category of the International ICT Awards Philippines for 2010. It was the second year the company has been recognized.
Last year StarTek was a finalist in the Best New BPO Locator of the Year category. The prestigious ICT Awards is organized annually by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (CanCham) and the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) to recognize excellent performance in eight categories. Leading BPO providers with operations in the Philippines participate in the annual assessment.
An independent board of judges and industry experts identify finalists and winners in each category. StarTek has been named a finalist in both years it has participated in the ICT Awards.
Judging criteria for the BPO Employer of the Year category include leadership, strategic HR, commitment to continuous improvement, involvement in corporate social responsibility initiatives, and strong evidence of actively supporting the international ICT industry in the Philippines. According to Larry Jones, StarTek CEO, the company’s leadership culture begins with embracing and living StarTek’s mission, vision, and core principles.
“The company’s Makati facility has built on these core values and created an environment where employees feel appreciated and involved,” Jones said.
StarTek created a seven-point strategic HR program to develop employees. It includes the open-door StarTek culture; attractive compensation and benefits, growth opportunities, supportive leadership, engaging activities in and outside the work environment for work-life balance, community involvement, and quality of life programs. The HR program provides mentoring for employees and a clear career path along with regular and meaningful recognition of employee achievements.
“We also empower our employees to develop their own interest groups such as photography, arts, and sports to contribute to their total development,” said Joyce Penalosa, HR Director for StarTek in Makati.
The company currently employs 1,400 Filipinos in its Makati facility. An Ortigas facility under development will have 2,100 seats.
