Manila, Philippines—To further enhance its commitment and support for exceptional educational and professional opportunities, leading customer services and outsourcing provider TELUS International Philippines (TIP) has partnered with De La Salle University (DLSU), one of the top universities in the country. Together they have created a part-time student scholarship program that offers subsidized Lasallian education and part-time employment at TIP. The launch event was recently held at DLSU in Manila.
“When we launched the TELUS International University (TIU) last October, our initial goal was to help our team members develop their talents and maximize their full potential. When we partnered with DLSU, we not only got what we aimed for, but we also inspired DLSU to open their own scholarship program,” said TIP president Javier Infante.
Through this scholarship, quality education is offered not only to TELUS team members, but also to deserving incoming freshmen students who will take degree courses in interdisciplinary business studies, international studies, or information systems at DLSU. Aside from the subsidized tuition and miscellaneous fees, freshmen students who qualify will be enrolled as full-time students and will be given a monthly stipend and a post at TIP during their second year. This scholarship program is undertaken as part of DLSU’s Student Assistantship and Resource Training (START).
A different curriculum was specially designed for this scheme. It will take about 15 terms for each scholar to finish their degree. Scholars will have the same program and subjects, but the terms and number of course subjects to be taken per term will be different, as they will be working part-time at TIP.
“This tie-up is only the beginning. We are looking forward to more opportunities that will help inspire individuals and develop future leaders in our community,” added Infante.
“We at La Salle believe that education is the key to a promising future and TIP shares the same belief. We were inspired by TIP’s initiative to provide access not only to gainful employment, but also to the opportunities available with having a degree. This scholarship program is our way of living by our mission, to make Lasallian education accessible to all,” stated Brother Narciso S. Erguiza, FSC, President of De La Salle University.
The TIP-DLSU partnership started when TIP launched TIU last year. DLSU is one of the partner educational institutions that provide quality education to qualified TIP team members.
